The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said the country logged 26 new recoveries from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), pushing the total number of recovered cases to 448,279.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the figures represent 93.6 percent of those who tested positive for the virus who have so far beaten the illness.

The agency also reported 959 new confirmed cases and six new deaths.

These figures brought the overall tally of active cases to 21,219 and the death toll to 9,263.

The DOH noted a decrease in the number of cases reported due to a decrease in the number of patients seen in Covid-19 laboratories during the New Year.

It reminded the public to be cautious in interpreting these numbers as an increase in cases in the coming weeks is still possible.

“The DOH continues to assess the extent of the effects of the holiday season on Covid-19 transmission. The DOH asks all stakeholders to be vigilant in guarding against complacency in the fight against Covid-19,” the agency said.

It added about 81.7 percent of the active cases are mild, 7.9 percent are asymptomatic, 3.4 percent are severe, 0.57 percent are moderate, and 6.4 percent are in critical condition.

Quezon City topped the list of places that logged the most number of new cases with 73 infections.

It was followed by Davao City with 70, Rizal province with 58, Agusan del Sur with 44, and Laguna with 41.

“About five duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, four recovered cases have been removed. Moreover, one case previously tagged as recovered was reclassified as a death,” the DOH said.

A DOH data on Jan. 3 showed that 508 or 5.3 percent of 9,582 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

The DOH also said it has 25,200-bed capacity dedicated to patients with Covid-19.

Available are 60 percent of 2,000 intensive care unit beds, 68 percent of 15,900 isolation beds, and 77 percent of 7,300 ward beds.

Around 79 percent of 2,100 ventilators are available for Covid-19 patients’ use. (PNA)
