The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported 2,833 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) infections, raising the country’s overall tally to 294,591 with only 58,127 active cases.

Of the active cases, it said that about 86.5 percent are mild, 9.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent are severe, and 3 percent are in critical condition.

The majority of the new cases are from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1,222, the provinces of Cavite with 228, Negros Occidental with 206, Batangas with 143, and Bulacan with 141 infections.

It also logged 765 new recoveries and 44 deaths, bringing the total number of recoveries to 231,373 and the number of deaths to 5,091.

Of the 44 deaths, 21 occurred in September which is 48 percent, 14 in August which is 32 percent, six in July which is 14 percent, two in June which is 5 percent, and one in May which is 2 percent.

The NCR has 23 deaths or 52 percent, Calabarzon has six or 14 percent, Western Visayas with five or 11 percent, Central Luzon with two or 5 percent, the Zamboanga Peninsula with two or 5 percent, Ilocos Region with one or 2 percent, Central Visayas with one or 2 percent, Northern Mindanao with one or 2 percent, Davao Region with one or 2 percent, BARMM with one or 2 percent, and CARAGA with one or 2 percent.

“There were 31 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, 14 recovered cases and one death have been removed. Moreover, 21 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified to 16 deaths and five active cases after final validation, and there is also one case that was previously reported as death but has been validated as recovered,” the DOH said.

As of Tuesday, the 100 licensed reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratories and 30 licensed GeneXpert laboratories have conducted a total of 3,254,852 tests nationwide.

The DOH said it has a 21,300 total bed capacity dedicated to Covid-19 patients.

Occupied are about 51 percent of 1,800 intensive care unit beds; 43 percent of 13,900 isolation beds; and 46 percent of 5,600 ward beds.

About 26 percent of 2,100 ventilators are in use. (PNA)
