The construction of PHP7.38-million worth of quarantine facilities in Biliran province is underway, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Friday.

DPWH-Biliran chief David Adongay said these two facilities located in the villages of Agpangi and Larrazabal, both in its capital town of Naval, would be used to isolate confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients in the province.

“In Agpangi, we are converting an existing evacuation center into an isolation facility. It has 28 divisions to accommodate a maximum of 28 patients. Each isolation room will be provided with a bed, side table, chair, and cabinet,” Adongay said in a phone interview.

Outside the facility, a separate room for decontamination, donning of personal protective equipment (PPE), and triaging will be constructed, including two sleeping quarters, each room with two beds for male and female medical workers.

“We will also provide additional comfort rooms in the facility,” Adongay said.

In Larazzabal, the infrastructure agency is setting up 15 isolation tents that can accommodate up to 28 patients.

“We will also set up separate tents for decontamination and disinfection, donning and doffing of PPEs, triage area, kitchen area, camp management area, and two sleeping tents, one each for male and female medical workers. Two additional concrete comfort rooms will also be constructed,” Adongay said.

The DPWH field office targets the completion of these projects on August 10.

Based on the monitoring of the Department of Health (DOH) in the region, Biliran has confirmed a total of 26 Covid-19 cases, including 25 recoveries and one death in Kawayan town.

Meanwhile, Eastern Visayas has recorded a total of 757 cases, with 644 recoveries and three deaths from Biliran, Leyte, and Samar.

To date, the region has 110 active coronavirus cases housed in isolation and quarantine facilities. (PNA)
