The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday reported 39 more Filipinos abroad contracting the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total tally to 9,754.

In its latest case bulletin, the DFA said there are no new fatalities while 23 new recoveries were recorded mostly from the Americas, Middle East and Africa.

This figure brings the total number of recoveries to 5,783 while the death toll remains at 708.

“The decrease in the total number of Covid-19 cases today in Asia Pacific Region compared to yesterday’s figures is due to the alignment with DOH verified cases in the said region. Thus, while 39 new cases were recorded today, only 29 are added to yesterday’s overall total,” the DFA said.

Meanwhile, about 3,263 Filipinos abroad are still undergoing treatment.

“As the DFA, together with its Foreign Service Posts, remains steadfast in promoting and protecting the welfare of our fellow Filipinos amid this pandemic, repatriation efforts for our stranded nationals and those who wish to return home will continue. As of last night’s report, the DFA has repatriated over 124,700 land-based and sea-based overseas Filipinos,” the DFA said. (PNA)
