A total of 7,345 residents of Iloilo City have been tapped under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) of the Department of Labor and Employment to boost dengue efforts in communities.

Iloilo City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) manager Gabriel Felix Umadhay led the orientation of the 6,800 beneficiaries at the gymnasium of the University of San Agustin on Friday afternoon in preparation for their deployment starting Sept. 16.

The participants will be paid PHP480 per day for 10 days.

Iloilo City Executive Assistant Raisa Treñas said the project would boost the government’s campaign against dengue since most of them are assigned to do cleanup activities.

“We know that to stop dengue, there has to be a simultaneous cleanup and not just in one barangay,” she said.

Data from the City Health Office showed Iloilo City has 1,250 dengue cases with six deaths this year as of Sept. 14. (PNA)
