At least 575 farmers affected by the low-pressure area (LPA) that hit Las Nieves town in Agusan del Norte in February this year received financial from the local government unit (LGU), its municipal information office (MIO) said Tuesday.

In a statement, the MIO said the aid distribution, which started Monday and will run until Wednesday, involves some PHP1,150,000 in financial aid benefiting affected farmers from the different barangays.

Each beneficiary will receive PHP3,000, depending on the assessment of the damages they suffered during the Feb. 17 LPA.

“Most of the 575 farmer-beneficiaries came from the rice sector while the others are engaged in corn, abaca and coffee farming,” the MIO said.

Rosita Buron, a rice farmer from Barangay Tinucoran, was among those who received assistance during the start of the distribution on Monday.

“I am thankful to the government, especially to the Las Nieves LGU for this assistance,” she said.

Buron said the PHP3,000 assistance she received will be used to buy her family’s basic needs. (PNA)
