Leading global smart device brand OPPO announced last March 2, 2020 that it will license its global 3G and 4G standard essential patents to the IoT and automotive markets through leading patent licensing platform Avanci.

Adler Feng, Senior Director of Intellectual Property of OPPO, said “OPPO has always been committed to promoting the healthy development of the industry. We are willing to license OPPO’s essential patent portfolio to the industry based on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms. We are pleased to offer our 3G and 4G communications standard essential patents for licensing through Avanci to IoT and automotive manufacturers.”

Kasim Alfalahi, founder and chief executive officer of Avanci, said “We are delighted to welcome OPPO, a smartphone industry leader, to the Avanci platform. Avanci enables companies such as OPPO to earn a reasonable return on their R&D investments, through an efficient marketplace that balances the interests of patent owners and licensees around the world, and enables continued innovation.”

Avanci is a patent licensing platform that provides a one-stop solution for IoT vendors to access wireless communication technology. 14 automotive brands are already licensed through Avanci for their connected vehicles. Avanci has attracted 38 standard essential patent holders, including OPPO. The addition of OPPO reflects the company’s patent strength in the field of wireless communications.

As a leading global technology brand, OPPO has always attached great importance to R&D innovations in order to provide outstanding products and service experiences for users worldwide. As of February 29, 2020, OPPO had more than 43,000 global patent applications and more than 16,000 patents, including more than 38,000 patent applications for inventions that accounts for more than 88% of its total applications.
