On Sunday, November 29. OPM singer-songwriter April Boy Regino dies at 59.

His death was declared official by his brother, Vingo Regino, through a Facebook post captioned, “Nakakalungkot naman ang araw na ito…wala na ang kuya april boy ko”.

April Boy’s son and fellow musician JC Regino also changed his social media pages’ profile picture into an image of a candle and a baseball cap, his father’s signature hat, to honor his legacy.

In the 90s, April Boy popularized the hits “Paano Ang Puso Ko” and “Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin”. He was easily recognizable due to his long hair with a baseball cap on top, and would sometimes give out numerous, similar caps to the audience while performing on stage.

Since his retirement from showbiz in 2014 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, April Boy’s health had been deteriorating. The next year, he was hit by diabetic retinopathy — a condition which slowly takes away one’s vision.

Alongside fans, notable colleagues from the scene expressed their condolences on multiple social media platforms shortly after the news about his death.
