The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported 3,176 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, raising the overall tally to 245,143 with 55,614 active cases.

The DOH said the additional cases reported were based on the total Covid-19 tests done by 105 out of 117 operational laboratories.

The 12 laboratories which failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Data Repository System include Cagayan Valley Medical Center, Green City Medical Center, Calamba Medical Center, Daniel O, Mercado Medical Center, Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital, The Doctors Hospiral Inc, Maria Reyna Xavier University Hospital, Butuan Medical Center (GX), Amosup Seamen’s Hospital, Hi-Precision Diagnostics QC, Philippine Airport Diagnostic Laboratory, and Safeguard DNA Diagnostics.

It reported that of the active cases, about 88.3 percent are mild, 8.6 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent severe, and 1.8 percent are critical.

The majority of the newly announced cases were from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1,327, Batangas with 260, Laguna with 193, Rizal with 176, and Negros Occidental with 155 cases.

The department also reported 376 new recoveries and 70 deaths, bringing the total number of recoveries to 185,543 and the number of deaths to 3,986.

“Of the 70 deaths, 49 occurred in September which is 70 percent, 10 in August which is 14 percent, seven in July which is 10 percent, three in June which is 4 percent and one in April which is one percent and the deaths were from NCR with 36 or 51 percent, Region 4A (Calabarzon) with eight or 11 percent, Region 3 (Central Visayas) with six or 9 percent, Region 12 (SOCCKSARGEN) with four or 6 percent, Region 6 (Western Visayas) with three or 4 percent, Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) with three or 4 percent, Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) with two or 3 percent, Region 5 (Bicol) with two or 3 percent, Region 7 (Central Visayas) with two or 3 percent, BARMM with two or 3 percent, Region 11 (Davao Region) with one or 1 percent, and Region 4B (MIMAROPA) with one or 1 percent,” the DOH said.

It added that some 20 duplicates were removed from the total case count and of these, nine recovered cases have been removed.

“Moreover, there were two cases that were previously reported as recovered but after final validation, they were deaths,” the DOH said.

As of Tuesday, the 89 licensed reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratories and 29 licensed GeneXpert laboratories have conducted a total of 2,722,483 tests nationwide.

The DOH said it has a 21,100 total bed capacity dedicated to Covid-19 patients.

Occupied are about 46 percent of 1,800 intensive care unit beds; 45 percent of 13,500 isolation beds; and 48 percent of 5,800 ward beds.

About 28 percent of 2,200 ventilators are in use. (PNA)
