The province of Negros Oriental has recorded three new confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total active infections to 35 on Tuesday, July 28.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, also the health committee chair of the provincial Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), in a press briefing on Tuesday, said the three new cases are from the towns of Sibulan, Bacong, and Tayasan.

The Sibulan patient is a 57-year-old male from Barangay Boloc-boloc, an authorized person outside of residence (APOR), and the husband of the allied health worker who was also earlier tested positive of Covid-19, along with their 18-year-old son.

The one from Bacong, the town’s first positive infection, is a 70-year-old-male locally-stranded individual (LSI) who returned to the province from Parañaque in Metro Manila.

The third new case is a 20-year-old-female from Tayasan, also an LSI, who arrived here from Mandaue City, Cebu province.

The new cases are now in the isolation facilities in their respective towns while the Sibulan APOR is admitted at a private hospital in this capital city, said Estacion.

At present, she said the total tally of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Negros Oriental since March is 91, with 35 active infections, 53 recoveries, and three deaths.

Meanwhile, Estacion said they are digging deeper into the activities of an allied health worker from Sibulan town who tested positive of coronavirus since she and her family arrived here from Bacolod City, Negros Oriental on July 1.

The worker visited the Rural Health Units (RHU) of Sibulan, San Jose, and Amlan towns, where she is assigned, on separate dates this month, and also went to a private institution in this capital and the Dumaguete-Sibulan airport.

This prompted personnel of these RHUs to undergo throat swab tests and mandatory quarantine while health authorities continue their investigation on the family’s activities since their return here more than three weeks ago. (PNA)
