The Department of Agriculture is looking forward to boosting livestock production in Antique with the provision of PHP34.1 million worth of projects during the visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr in Hamtic, Antique on Monday.

Agriculturist II Fernie Rose Dato-on, in an interview on Monday afternoon, said six local government units (LGUs), three cooperatives and one state university were identified as recipients of multiplier farms for cattle, carabao, native pig, goat, chicken and duck, and photovoltaic systems (solar panel with complete accessories) for the upgrading of two multiplier and production farms.

“We have existing projects with Patnongon MPC (multi-purpose cooperative) and the Belison MPC under INSPIRE (Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion), the swine repopulation program of DA. Their solar panel is only for upgrading,” she said.

Meanwhile, the 20-sow level native pig multiplier farm seeks to help hog raisers who were hit by the African swine fever.

Each of the cattle and carabao multiplier farms has a capacity of 20-head breeder stocks, while for goat has 25 does and 2 bucks.

The chicken and duck multiplier farms each have a 600-head capacity.

Dato-on said the stocks and the facility for the cattle multiplier farm in Bugasong have been turned over to the LGU.

For establishment are multiplier farms proposed by the University of Antique-Hamtic campus and the LGUs of San Remigio, Tobias Fornier, San Jose and Patnongon. (PNA)
