R’Bonney Gabriel, the Filipino-American winner of the 71st Miss Universe pageant, is returning to Manila as the host of this year’s Miss Universe Philippines finale, scheduled for May 22.
The announcement was made by the organizers on Thursday via the official MUPH’s Facebook page. They expressed that having Gabriel as the host is a tribute to her Filipino heritage.
Gabriel made history as the first Filipino-American to win the Miss Universe title, representing the United States, during her remarkable pageant journey.
Fifty-three contestants from across the country and overseas Filipino communities are competing for the coveted title in this year’s MUPH finale. The 73rd Miss Universe pageant is set to take place in Mexico later this year.
The 2024 Miss Universe Philippines pageant aims to crown the successor to reigning queen Michelle Marquez Dee, who showcased remarkable achievements during her reign, including finishing in the Top 10 of the 72nd Miss Universe pageant held in El Salvador last year.
While additional hosts have yet to be announced, the event promises a special performance by Filipino drag superstar Marina Summers.
