Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Secretary Leo Tereso Magno welcomed the direct release of the PHP57.8-billion Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), saying communities across Mindanao will benefit from quicker access to the resources, his office announced Wednesday.

Magno’s statement followed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive for the direct release of the LGSF during the recent launch of the “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Bayan Makikinabang” program at Malacañang.

The LGSF, now the largest allocation in Philippine history, is designed to bridge the national government and local communities by funding projects that directly improve public services and support social development.

“We welcomed the move – it will help local government units cut through red tape and bring projects to life sooner,” Magno said in a statement.

He noted that delays in fund disbursement have slowed down infrastructure and social projects, especially in far-flung and underserved areas. By streamlining the process, the President’s directive aims to ensure resources reach communities without unnecessary bottlenecks.

“It complements MinDA’s programs that help local governments plan, prepare, and implement projects effectively,” Magno added.

He said MinDA is stepping in to help LGUs maximize the opportunity through its Public-Private Partnership Desk, guiding local governments in structuring projects—from farm-to-market roads and renewable energy facilities to evacuation centers—to attract investment and ensure sustainability.

Tools like the Mindanao Development Tracker allow LGUs to align their initiatives with regional priorities, while MinDA’s agribusiness and climate-resilience programs ensure projects strengthen local economies and prepare communities for environmental challenges.

“This is not just about building roads or facilities. It is about improving livelihoods, strengthening local economies, and building resilient communities across Mindanao. Our message is clear: we are Building a Better Mindanao,” Magno said. (PNA)
