Four months after her divorce, Barbie Hsu, a Taiwanese actress who rose to fame as Shan Cai in the series Meteor Garden, announced her marriage to South Korean rapper Koo Jun-Yup.
On Tuesday, March 8, Jun-yup announced on his Instagram. He also shared a story on how they got together.
“We are married. To have such a destiny with a lover from over 20 years ago – this is a love we both want to cherish and continue,” he said, as translated by an article from Straits Times.
He also recalled that he tried to contact Hsu using her number for 20 years, hoping that she was still using the same number. Luckily, she did, which led to their reconnection.
“We have lost too much time together so I proposed marriage and Barbie finally agreed. After registering our marriage, we shall live together. I’m marrying late in life and I hope to receive everyone’s love and support,” he added.
Hsu also reposted Jun-yup’s post. In her caption, she wrote: “Life is uncertain. I cherish the happiness I have in the present. I thank everything that has led me step by step to where I am now.”
Celebrities have sent their best wishes to the couple in the comment section of their posts.
They allegedly started dating in secret in 1998 but broke up after about a year because Koo’s management opposed him being in a relationship.
Koo Jun-Yup, also popularly known as DJ Koo, is a 52-year-old South Korean rapper who was a part of Clon, a music duo that debuted in 1996. Barbie Hsu, 45, is best known for her role as Shan Cai in the 2001 Taiwanese Drama “Meteor Garden” wherein she co-starred with Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu, and Vanness Wu. She also starred in movies like Reign of Assassins, Connected, and the series Mars and Summer’s Desire. She was formerly married for ten years to Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei. They filed for divorce in November 2021. They have two children; a daughter who was born in 2014 and a son who was born in 2016.
