A motor taxi driver has drawn widespread online attention for returning to assist Mai, a stranded passenger who missed the UPCAT in Barangay Dela Paz, Antipolo City.
In an account shared online, Mai detailed booking a motorcycle ride with the driver, identified in her post as Jeffrey, after leaving home early to reach her designated testing center. The commute encountered severe navigation issues caused by an inaccurate location pin within the application, as well as faulty mapping directions. Despite the continuous routing problems, her driver spent over an hour helping her by trying to find the correct examination venue, stopping multiple times to ask directions from security guards, local residents, and passersby across the neighborhood.
The search extended past 12:20 p.m., and Mai recognized that she would be unable to arrive at the venue before the official testing cutoff time. She then informed the driver that she was forfeiting the examination and requested to be dropped off along the roadside. After stepping off the motorcycle, she contacted her mother by phone to explain the situation, remaining alone at the drop-off point in distress.
Shortly after departing, Jeffrey returned to the exact location where he had dropped Mai off. According to Mai, the driver returned specifically out of concern for her safety, stating that he did not want to leave a young passenger alone in an unfamiliar area. He then offered to transport her directly to a recognized public transportation site where she could safely arrange travel back home.
Mai noted that the driver explicitly declined to accept any extra fare, tip, or monetary compensation for the extended journey, multiple detours, and additional distance traveled during the search. Before leaving the final location, Jeffrey said “Take care. It’s okay.”
The Facebook post expressed gratitude to the driver, highlighting his focus on passenger welfare over financial gain despite the unsuccessful attempt to reach the testing location on schedule. The account has since been shared across various digital platforms, drawing widespread praise for the driver’s conduct.
