The Taguig City government on Thursday reported a 100-percent recovery rate in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in two areas that were placed under localized lockdown.

In a statement, Mayor Lino Cayetano said there were 506 recoveries among the Covid-19 cases in Barangays Fort Bonifacio and Lower Bicutan where a localized quarantine was declared.

“This 100 percent recovery rate among the cases originating in the BGC (Bonifacio Global City) construction site (394 cases and recoveries) in Barangay Fort Bonifacio and Dalampasigan Area in Purok 5 and Mauling Creek, I. Reyes and Barangay Street in Purok 6 (112 cases and recoveries) in Barangay Lower Bicutan proves that the implementation of a localized quarantine is effective in isolating the virus without compromising economic recovery. We will continue to refine and perfect this to effectively contain the virus in the city,” Cayetano said.

While there were no reported deaths from Covid-19 in these places, he said the localized quarantine will still be in effect in these areas until the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CEDSU) declares these areas as cleared.

He also thanked the citizens and stakeholders especially the Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation (FBDC), Bonifacio Estate Services Corporation (BESC), local police, barangay leaders of Fort Bonifacio, and Lower Bicutan, health workers and front-liners for their exemplary work and cooperation.

“We were in close coordination with the national government and the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) who provided support via prioritization at the national testing and quarantine facilities,” Cayetano said.

He said the threat of an outbreak would not have been contained if not for the concern and bayanihan (civic unity) offered by the community.

“May this good news encourages all of us to continue being vigilant against the spread of the Covid-19 virus,” he noted.

He said such a measure was the consensus of all Metro Manila mayors, noting that putting a village or a city under lockdown is something that they cannot afford anymore.

Cayetano added that localized lockdowns help in keeping the economy open and ensures continuity of jobs for the people.

As of Tuesday, the city has 1,836 confirmed cases, with 167 active cases, 1,643 recoveries, and 26 deaths. (PNA)
