Confidence in Maya, one of the country’s biggest e-wallets, is taking a hit as users continue to report recurring technical failures, from the collapse of its G Crypto service to a wave of login lockouts that leave customers unable to access their own money.

In recent days, multiple users have taken to social media and online forums to vent their anger over sudden account restrictions. The app displays a message saying logins are blocked “as a security measure,” but affected customers say they receive no clear explanation or resolution.

One user shared how he was suddenly locked out while trying to pay for lunch. “I reset my password thinking my account was compromised. Maya support later told me my account is fine, no issue. So why can’t I log in?” he said.

Another customer recounted being locked out due to an alleged “unsettled subscription,” even though Maya could not identify what subscription it was. “It doesn’t make sense. How can I verify something they themselves can’t explain? Am I supposed to guess?” the user fumed, adding that the issue persisted even after uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

Some users are more distressed, saying the glitches are preventing them from accessing funds needed for essentials like tuition and electricity bills. One father said he had ₱6,000 stuck in his Maya account for his daughter’s school needs but was unable to transfer the money despite repeated troubleshooting.

Others have escalated complaints to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) after weeks of unresolved issues. “Maya sucks pati customer service nila,” one Reddit user wrote. “Nag-report ako last week, naka-CC pa sa BSP, up until now di ko mabuksan Maya account ko.”

Critics argue that every disruption chips away at Maya’s credibility in an already competitive fintech market dominated by GCash. For a platform entrusted with handling sensitive financial data and day-to-day transactions, the repeated breakdowns and vague customer support responses have become unacceptable.

Industry observers warn that unless Maya urgently stabilizes its systems and improves transparency in addressing outages, it risks hemorrhaging users to more reliable competitors. As digital wallets become the backbone of everyday commerce in the Philippines, trust is currency, and for Maya, it is running dangerously low.
