Kris Aquino, Queen of All Media, has revealed the story and the person behind her engagement with former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Mel Sarmiento.
On Sunday, October 24, 2021, the Filipina television host surprised the netizens with a video of her and Sarmiento standing beside a heart-shaped flower bouquet, hinting about their engagement.

The speculations about Aquino and Sarmiento’s relationship sparked last August after Kris posted a birthday message on her Instagram thanking someone for coming into her life.

The following day, Aquino received a bouquet in return for her birthday greetings to the anonymous guy she’s been posting. “Thank you for wanting me to be happy, this time I feel even Noy in heaven will finally approve, siguro naman because we’d never have met had it not been for him,” she exclaimed which stirred speculations about Sarmiento’s identity.

Sarmiento was known for serving former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III as the third and last secretary of the DILG from 2015 to 2016 after Mar Roxas vacated the post to run for President. He has been a very close alliance of the Aquino which made more sense for the assumptions of the public.
Recently, Aquino has officially revealed that PNoy, who has recently died of lung cancer and cardiac arrest, was the reason why she and Sarmiento have crossed paths.
“We would never have met nor reconnected had it not been for Noy. Thank you to my kuya, kahit wala na sya ramdam na ramdam ko na kahit ilang beses kaming nagkatampuhan, kahit kailan gagawa talaga sya ng paraan na ma-assure kami nila kuya Josh at Bimb kung gaano nya kami kamahal at hindi talaga siya papayag na ma feel namin na kami ay mapapabayaan,” Aquino stated on her instagram post.
The TV actress labeled PNoy as a matchmaker since he is the one who introduced Sarmiento to her, “I can almost hear his voice telling me, Kristina, tama na, respect the fact na gusto ni Mel ng tahimik na buhay,” Aquino recalled.
And finally, “Bunso has learned to obey,” she added.
Moreover, she opened up that PNoy has been very concerned about her relationship to the extent that he doesn’t want her to settle with some guy he doesn’t approve of.
“It’s been exactly 4 months since we so unexpectedly lost our brother. Sure ako, ayaw nya talagang iwanan si “bunso” na walang magbabantay at mag-aalaga na siguradong pinagkakatiwalaan nya,” she continued.
After multiple times of suffering from failed relationships, Aquino has finally settled with the man she’s ready to spend her life with, “Dumating noong hindi ko hinahanap o inaasahan, kaya nga tama silang lahat na nagsabi in God’s perfect time,” she said.
Aquino ended her Instagram post with a statement saying that she is looking forward to being a Sarmiento.
