Residents of Barangay Buenavista here are now benefiting from a water project initiated by the Ako Bicol Party-list.
Barangay Captain Rogelio Leron said that over 367 households, or 1,600 individuals, have been able to access clean water from the facility.
“This has greatly improved the daily lives of the residents, as they now have easy access to water for cooking, laundry, bathing, and other daily activities,” Leron said in Filipino in an interview on Monday.
Shienalyn Navarro, a 33-year-old mother of four, expressed her gratitude for the project, saying it has saved her time and effort, especially as a vendor who needs water to clean her products.
“We also had water before, but we needed to walk and fetch water,” she said, adding that during rainy days, the water became murky and unfit for use.
“With this project, there is now water in every house. For us, it’s very helpful, for me, who has four children. It saved me a lot of time. Thank you, AKB, especially to former rep. Christopher Co,” Navarro said.
Former AKB representative Christopher Co, who initiated the project, visited the water collector and filtration area of the water system on Monday.
He expressed plans to open the water system to residents from other villages and eventually to the entire city.
Co emphasized the safety and continuity of the water source, even during typhoons and power outages.
“The water source is very safe from waste. Even if there is a typhoon, there is a brownout, there is water. With these, it can help and provide a solution to the long-time water problem of the city. People were sleeping from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.; water continues from that time; with that, we need to collect all the water and the people of Legazpi can use it,” he said.
He also mentioned that the project was funded with a significant amount for the construction of water collectors and filtration during his time as AKB representative.
Co said there is a need for additional pipelines, water filtration, and reservoirs to ensure the expansion of the project.
He believes that this project can provide a long-term solution to the city’s water problem, benefiting all the residents. (PNA)
