The provincial government of La Union will soon start its own agri-registry and digital agri-market place to boost agri-production and aid farmers and fisherfolk.

The agri-registry will hold the profile of farmers, fisherfolk, their cooperatives, and organizations, according to JP Roma Duque, planning head of La Union, during a virtual forum hosted by the Philippine Information Agency-Ilocos Region on Friday.

“Pre-work for this has already started and it already has a mock-up. It has the profile of the farmers, fisherfolk, cooperatives, and associations. It has the data on the hectarage they plant on and the data on their produce,” she said.

She added that this is almost similar to the Department of Agriculture’s registry system for basic sectors in agriculture.

Duque said the system would ensure that the interventions given to agri workers are appropriate and distributed evenly.

“This is to reduce redundancy both in projects and beneficiaries. We would be able to determine those who have already received and to establish database,” she said.

Meanwhile, the digital agri-marketplace will be an online plarform where La Union’s agri-products would be sold directly to the online market anywhere in the country.

Duque said the agri-marketplace will be launched by the second half of this year.

“We would invite agri-preneurs so that those who cannot readily visit the province but would like to avail of the products could do so by ordering online,” she said.
