The provincial government of La Union has turned over 40 units of multipurpose vehicles to the villages of Luna town to aid in their emergency response.

Governor Mario Eduardo Ortega said in a statement on Wednesday that the vehicles will empower the barangays to be proactive and deliver better quality public service to their constituents.

“Hirap na hirap itong mga barangay na magdala ng service sa kanilang constituents lalo sa tyempo ng emergency at bagyo kaya time to time, they need the vehicle for purposes of emergency, now nandiyan na ang vehicle they can now use of it in performing their duties better (It is very difficult for these villages to bring services to their constituents especially during emergencies and disasters, which is why from time to time, they need the vehicle for emergency purposes. Now that the vehicles are here, they can use them to perform their duties better),” he said.

Ortega also urged the barangay captains to use the vehicles only for official functions and during emergencies.

This initiative is part of the administration’s commitment to equip barangays with the capabilities to respond immediately to emergencies, boost peace and order, and enhance their disaster preparedness, according to the La Union Provincial Information Office.

Luna town Mayor Gary Pinzon expressed gratitude and committed to ensuring the proper care and maintenance of the vehicles.

“This is a big help to us, it is a blessing and rest assured that the vehicles will serve all constituents,” he said.

The ceremonial turnover was held on Tuesday, and the distribution to the villages is ongoing. (PNA)
