The nominees for the anticipated 92nd Academy Awards had been announced on the 13th of January 2020 at 5:18 am PST (9:18 PM on Philippine Time) at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles. The early morning announcements are hosted by Insecure star Issa Rae and Star Trek actor John Cho.
The billion-dollar hit DC Comics adaptation Joker accumulated the most nominations with 11 nods, including Best Picture, Best Director for Todd Philips and Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix.
Tied for second place with the most nominations are the Martin Scorsese gangster epic The Irishman, the Quentin Tarantino love letter to 60’s pop culture Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and the World War I drama thriller 1917, all of which obtained 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Editing for all three films.
Other notable nominees for Best Picture include the racing biopic Ford v. Ferrari, the light-hearted Adolf Hitler satire Jojo Rabbit, the 2019 adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott classic Little Women, the Netflix divorce-centered comedy-drama Marriage Story and the South Korean black comedy Parasite.
