Facebook’s parent company Meta officially launched Instagram’s new text-based conversation app, Threads, creating a wider platform to share memories with its users.

Facebook and Meta Platforms chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg said in his post about the app Threads that the application was created to be “an open and friendly public space for conversation.”

“We hope to take what Instagram does best and create a new experience around text, ideas, and discussing what’s on your mind,” he added.

As an extension of Instagram, Threads users have the ability to import their personal details on the platform and follow the same accounts they follow on Instagram to remain connected with them, including their favorite creators.

With the Thread app, Instagram has widened the scope of connecting its users to its followers through sharing short pieces of text, photos, and videos.

Threads do not have a word count limit for each post, but the main objective of the app is very similar to what the social media app Twitter does: let the audience share short posts.

The Threads app can be found in the Profile tab of an Instagram user, which will direct them to their chosen app downloader.

Over 2 million people have already signed up for Threads since its launch, according to Zuckerberg’s post on the platform.
