The House of Representatives and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Tuesday conducted the second blood donation activity, collecting 30,600 cc of plasma for patients needing blood transfusion.

The bloodletting activity held at the Batasan complex in Quezon City was held by virtue of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the House and the PRC.

The House Medical and Dental Service and the Legislative Security Bureau spearheaded the activity in partnership with the PRC Quezon City Chapter.

Under the MOA signed last Feb. 13, blood donation drives shall be conducted every three months with the House getting a 10 percent proprietary share of the donated blood.

The lower chamber’s officials and employees may avail of the supply when the need arises.

Some 106 units or 47,700 cc of blood were collected when the first bloodletting activity, dubbed “Handog ng Kongreso Para sa Puso,” was held last Feb. 13.

Under the agreement, disqualified donors were instead encouraged to buy raffle tickets for the PRC’s fund-raising project dubbed as “Tulong Mo Panalo Ka”.

The PRC, however, encouraged everyone to be a blood donor and be a part of the Red Cross membership program. (PNA)
