Officials of Claver, Surigao del Norte, rescued and released an endangered Hawksbill sea turtle in the coastal village of Hayangabon on Wednesday.

“A responsible fisherfolk rescued the sea turtle and was immediately turned over to the Philippine Maritime Police for proper disposition,” Claver’s local government unit (LGU) said in a statement.

It added that the health condition of the rescued sea turtle was immediately checked by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office.

The sea turtle weighed 30 kg. to 35 kg. and had a curved carapace 70 inches long and 56 inches wide.

“After being assessed fit and in healthy condition, the sea turtle was immediately released back to the sea,” the LGU said.

Meanwhile, the LGU also reported that another green sea turtle was spotted laying eggs on Wednesday by residents of Barangay Pitogo Urbiztondo.

Authorities have visited the area to ensure the protection of the nesting sea turtle. (PNA)
