The opening of the Digital Transformation Center of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in Passi City in Iloilo will bring the government’s digital services closer to the people of Iloilo province.

“We are establishing digital transformation centers or hubs across the country that will offer various digital trainings and services to different sectors of our society. Both the public and private sectors can work and interact with each other through the hub for the betterment of Iloilo’s ICT (Information and Communications Technology),” said DICT Undersecretary Maria Victoria Castro in her virtual message during the inauguration on Wednesday.

DICT Western Visayas regional director Jane Javellana, in her message, said that they will open their services to all people needing them.

“This will be a center for capacity development, innovation and collaboration. We envisioned this initiative to be replicated in other cities, (and) municipalities in Western Visayas,” Javellana said.

Among the services available at the hub are the Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurs, and Economic Development (Tech4Ed) Project, co-working space with free Wi-Fi, assistance for digital signatures, training on digital jobs and a command center for disaster risk reduction and management.

“We look forward to partnering with LGUs (local government units) and NGAs (national government agencies) to further improve the efforts and ensure that the offered services complement the needs of the people,” she added.

She added that next week they will also be opening another center in Pototan and soon operationalize those in Lambunao and Calinog.

All provinces in the region will also have their own Digital Transformation Center.

Iloilo Provincial Office Center head Engr. John Felix Torino said that the hub will be serving the third, fourth and fifth districts of the province of Iloilo.

Iloilo City, first and second districts will be catered to by another provincial officer based at the regional office. (PNA)
