GMA Network recently received the Rotary Club of Manila’s (RCM) 2021 Pro Patria Journalism Award in a virtual ceremony held on June 17.

Instead of giving individual journalism awards, the RCM dedicated this year’s awards to honor media outlets in print, radio, and TV networks “which remained open as formal outlets for reports and information on important events and government actions that impact on the lives of our people and to encourage awareness on matters of public concern.”

GMA Network Senior Vice President for News and Public Affairs Marissa L. Flores received the award on behalf of GMA.

In her acceptance speech during the virtual event, Flores thanked the RCM and dedicated the award to the various teams of the Network who remained steadfast in delivering the much-needed news to Filipinos.

“GMA News and public affairs teams – in television, radio, and web – have covered all kinds of major events and calamities – but perhaps in recent time, none as risky as this pandemic. It is to them – reporters, crew, our field and production personnel and staff – those who work tirelessly to deliver the news, that we dedicate this recognition. I can only imagine the fear, worry, and anxiety that many of them face every day when they have to leave their homes and families to cover stories about this invisible enemy,” Flores shared.

She further assured that while no one is immune from the virus, they still do what they have to do in the best way they can. “You can count on our commitment to ethical and responsible journalism – and our Serbisyong Totoo – especially during the most difficult times.”

As GMA Network celebrates its 71st anniversary, the Kapuso station stays true to its commitment of being Buong Puso para sa Pilipino.
