With organizations adopting to multiple clouds and hybrid cloud environments for their business needs, it has now become a challenge to the networking and security teams to maintain a balance between security, complexity, and application experience which is why Fortinet now offers a new “Secure SD-WAN for Multi-Cloud” solution.

“Secure SD-WAN for Multi-Cloud enables enterprise IT to build a seamless cloud-to-cloud network and security architecture that is consistent and strong across different clouds,” according to its official website.

Having a multi-cloud environment enables organizations to avoid vendor lock-in and to select the best cloud services to meet the requirements of a workload. And it also provides redundancy to reduce the risk of downtime.

However, despite all these benefits of a multi-cloud environment it also has its fair share of challenges. Cloud platforms are diverse which is why it is hard to find skilled personnel who are experts in every cloud environment. These skill gaps may lead to an IT team’s inability to keep up with the different demands of the large number of cloud service providers being used. Other challenges are new security risks and a possible backhaul cloud traffic. Security risks may result to security gaps that will prevent an end-to-end visibility and uniform security control. And a backhaul cloud traffic may result to a degrade in the application performance.

Fortinet has taken these challenges into considerations which is why they’ve come up with the new “Secure SD-WAN for Multi-Cloud” solution. This enables a unified networking and security strategy with a programmable framework to ensure consistent policies for securing and transporting traffic across multi-cloud environments. Also, as this solution is supported by Fortinet fabric connectors, it automatically updates dynamic addresses of workloads.

This solution can utilize encryption to securely transport application traffic using internet links, work on cloud provider direct connections or internet links, and deliver the best application experience.
