Mae Anne Olmidillo, an OFW who works in a coffee shop in Dubai, was honored by the Dubai Police for her honesty.

She was working when she and a colleague noticed that a customer left their bag. Waiting for the customer to come back, she learned that the bag contained Dh195,000 (or PHP2,573,805.00) in cash, two cheques worth Dh500,000 (or PHP6,599,500.00) and Dh6,250 (or PHP82,493.75), and a title deed.

The cafe manager then turned over the bag to the Dubai Police, who contacted the owner of the bag. The owner, who was clueless before the incident, had to check first before realizing that he did forgot bringing his valuables.

Once confirmed, Olmidillo waited at the police station to return the bag to its respective owner. After arriving at the station, the bag owner thanked the Filipina and shared that the probable reason behind all of this was because he was tired. Weeks after her good deed, the Dubai Police visited Olmidillo’s workplace to honor her.

Olmidillo believes it was her personal conviction to return any lost items which didn’t need her to think twice on exhibiting honesty.

In the face of a pandemic, when it is more convenient to be selfish and materialistic, people like Mae Ann Olmidillo is an example to remain dignified and live your values amid the challenges.
