Japanese convenience and flavors intertwine with Pinoy artistry through a bold collaboration between FamilyMart and celebrated Filipino artist JP Pining. For its outlet at the newly opened Phoenix Block Sucat Skyway, the Japanese convenience store brand employed the vision of Pining through a colorful mural emblazoned on its facade. The artist, who has previously worked with other renowned brands such as Starbucks, used acrylic to create the 2-storey mural, which features FamilyMart characters representing some of the convenience store’s well-loved offerings, including onigiri and coffee.

“FamilyMart collaborated with me and applied my artwork to their food characters since they support local artists and SMEs. They want their stores to be a fun and delightful place to hang out–grab and go ng food or tambay sa alfresco, while eating Japanese favorites like onigiri, ramen, and donburi. “They’re focused on delighting the senses of their customers, kaya facade pa lang, attractive na,” said Pining.

Kitsch and Pining’s signature bold colors and gradients lend a refreshing quirkiness to the multi-purpose site, which is equipped with its own Phoenix gas station, Phoenix SUPER LPG hub, and a Wendy’s take-out and drive-thru counter. Bills payment via Posible, and digital transactions, including earning of loyalty rewards, are also available through LIMITLESS.

According to FamilyMart, this outlet, along with the rest of the Phoenix Block, aims to be a regular haunt for the local community, which includes residents in the Sucat area, and those who would frequently drop by to gas up and grab food and convenience items.

During the grand opening of the Phoenix Block, aside from the wall mural, Pining’s work was also featured in limited-edition stickers given out to invited guests.

“Happy ako sa naging outcome lalo it’s a collaboration work. We’re already in talks for more collaboration,” Pining added.
