UPSTREAM, the newest video on demand platform created by Filipinos, for Filipinos, has recently released its first original film, A Girl and A Guy, directed by Erik Matti.
The veteran filmmaker who has been known for his horror and action films is now back at releasing the romance genre. This time around, the film will liberate the concept of love, gender, and social media.
During the Grand Media Conference on Friday, June 18, the R18 film talks about “a modern tale of young adults navigating the tricky world of relationships, connection, and intimacy in today’s society,” where lead actors Rob Gomez and Alexa Miro are “scare-free” doing steamy scenes.
The rising star, Alexa Miro who’s “young” and “fresh” just like in the movie, started her TV exposure when she joined Munting Miss You as a 3-year-old, however, paused to focus on her studies. In her comeback, Miro will play the leading lady in the film.
Miro is willing to give her all, a millennial who doesn’t have a clear direction about her life and is willing to navigate the world of dating apps. Like everyone else, Miro who immersed herself in the role of Fiona is liberated and caught in a series of heartbreaks, which she defines as “relatable” in today’s generation.
Here’s to find out more about Fiona:
Meanwhile, the late grandson of George Estregan, Rob Gomez who takes the male lead role is also a newbie in the acting industry and wanting to live up to the names of Estrada showbiz reputation. Gomez is the boy next door, a charming and laid-back marketing associate, who gives justice to the character of Raf in the movie.
Here’s to find out more about Raf:
The pandemic has taken a major toll on everyone’s sex life. The opportunity to reconnect with partners was perhaps impossible on vacation. This movie has brought a more challenging experience for the team to deliver how millennials and Gen Zs deal with their dynamic and messy relationships. However, despite the limited resources of the movie, with the cast’s dedication to the project, it becomes possible to take aback and give good judgment to each role.
“I don’t want to make a movie where I can only show it to my brothers and sisters,” Matti said.
To the viewer’s expectation, “I wanted them to see for what it’s worth,” Matti added.
The director who wrote the script in 2019 wanted “to present a strong story” and to break the stigma of people showing skin and impart that “Sex is a beautiful thing.”
The film features a young, fresh, energetic, and dynamic set of new stars including Alexa Miro, Rob Gomez, Pau Benitez, Candice Ramos, Rosh Barman, Sarah Holmes, Carlo Tarobal, Emilio Francisco, Chloe Reyes, Roeder Camanag, Donna Cariaga, Marina Benipayo, and Shaun Salvador.
A Girl + A Guy will be shown on the streaming platform, UPSTREAM, starting on June 24. For ticket reservations, you may visit GMovies. For more information, visit upstream.ph.
