Entrepreneurs here managed to showcase their locally-made products to surfers and visitors in time for the Oct. 25-Nov. 1 staging of the 27th Siargao International Surfing Cup here.

“This is also part of our Buy Local, Support Local campaign, which aims to strengthen the markets of our local entrepreneurs in the province,” Arnold Faelnar, the provincial director of the Department of Trade and Industry in Surigao del Norte, said in an interview Friday.

More than 30 entrepreneurs set up their stalls and booths at the town’s public market of General Luna, a strategic location where surfers and visitors converge.

The Oct. 26-27 product showcase aims to help the local entrepreneurs in the province increase their income and introduce their goods to surfers and visitors from other countries and in the Philippines.

Faelnar said the activity is being conducted with the support of the Philippine Coconut Authority in the Caraga Region (PCA-13) and the local government.

“Food and other products from coconuts are also part of the displays which are made by our coconut farmers in the province. This is under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Program or CFIDP of the government,” Faelnar said.

Under the CFIDP, the PCA is tasked to help the coconut farmers through their associations develop local products, while the DTI is mandated to help in the marketing aspect of the program. (PNA)
