The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Monday cited the rapid adoption of the eGovPH app among Filipinos, with more than 800 million transactions and 56 million downloads recorded since its launch.
According to DICT Undersecretary for E-Government David Almirol Jr., the app’s usage surged sevenfold over the past year and has exceeded initial projections.
“The platform is now recording an average of 100,000 daily downloads and has already processed more than 800 million transactions since its launch, surpassing the DICT’s original target of 30 million users by 2028,” Almirol said.
Almirol said the DICT’s rapid digitalization efforts are in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to bring government services closer to the people through technology.
The app helps eliminate long lines, reduce red tape and make transactions with government agencies faster, more convenient and more accessible.
Developed entirely by DICT personnel, the app serves as a one-stop platform for government services, including digital IDs, national and local government services, permits, licenses and complaints, among others.
To date, the app integrates services from more than 1,300 government systems and is just one of 28 digital platforms managed by the DICT’s e-Government Office.
However, Almirol said the rapid growth in users has placed significant strain on the platform’s infrastructure, resulting in a service interruption that lasted five hours in April.
“Usage surged significantly. It was like an electrical system being overloaded because demand exceeded our capacity, eventually exhausting our available cloud resources,” he said.
He assured the public that the DICT has since activated backup systems and redundancy resources — originally intended for disaster recovery — and is closely coordinating with the Department of Budget and Management to secure additional funding to sustain the growth of the eGovPH platform.
The eGovPH app was developed by the DICT under the Marcos administration and was officially launched in January 2024.
The app is supported by the E-Governance Act or Republic Act 12254, signed by Marcos in September 2025, which requires government agencies to offer their services online and integrate them into eGovPH as a central platform. (PNA)
