The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office here said it has PHP236.37 million worth of relief items for distribution amid the recent earthquakes.

The stockpile includes 125,216 food items consisting of 18,473 ready-to-eat food packs; 106,743 family food packs (FFPs); and 22,146 non-food items such as family kits, sleeping kits, hygiene kits, and kitchen kits.

DSWD-Eastern Visayas information officer Jonalyndie Chua said they have been beefing up their stocks for the effects of natural calamities, including the recent strong earthquake in Davao Oriental.

“DSWD is always ready to respond. We continue to monitor and coordinate with local governments to ensure immediate response and assistance to those who may have been affected,” Chua told the Philippine News Agency on Monday.

Meanwhile, personnel from DSWD-Eastern Visayas continue working in support of partner agencies to help families in Cebu affected by the Sept. 30 magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

In support of the local government units and the Philippine National Red Cross, DSWD social workers continue to monitor living conditions in evacuation sites and talk with the displaced families to find out how they are doing.

The DSWD regional office deployed last week its mobile kitchen to Cebu province to support families badly affected by the tremor.
