More than 1,100 residents of Surigao del Sur received family food packs (FPPs) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 13 (Caraga) in a series of distribution activities from Oct. 2 to 3.

In a statement on Friday, DSWD-13 said the food packs were distributed through the agency’s Food-for-Work (FFW) program.

On Thursday, 37 members of the Badjao community in Tandag City received food packs after participating in a community gardening project as part of the FFW program.

“The 37 beneficiaries were compensated for their work in community gardening through the FFW program,” the DSWD-13 said.

In a separate event on Wednesday, 1,105 residents from San Agustin town also received food packs in exchange for services, such as drainage declogging, road clearing, and coastal clean-up.

The food packs include basic commodities, such as canned goods, noodles, coffee, and sugar.

The FFW program provides temporary employment and food assistance to vulnerable communities, compensating them for participating in community improvement projects. (PNA)
