Over PHP3.2 million of humanitarian assistance has been initially disbursed to assist families affected by Tropical Storm Ramil in Western Visayas.

As of 4 a.m. Monday, a report released by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office in Western Visayas (DSWD-6) showed that the inclement weather has affected 42,963 families or 154,664 individuals from 332 barangays in the region.

Of these, 2,310 or 8,435 individuals are staying in 142 evacuation centers across the region, while 2,635 families or 9,690 persons opted to seek temporary shelter with their friends or relatives.

Currently, the DSWD still has PHP82.9 million available resources, consisting of PHP2.79 million in standby funds and PHP80.11 million worth of food and non-food items.

On Sunday, DSWD-6 OIC-Regional Director Joselito Estember led the relief operation in coordination with the local government unit of Roxas City.

Affected families were provided with family food packs, while internally displaced persons in evacuation centers were provided with ready-to-eat food boxes.

“These food packs are meant to provide immediate relief to families,” Estember said.

“Each family food pack contains 6 kilos of rice, canned goods, cereal drink and coffee. The RTEF boxes, on the other hand, contain pre-packed meals that are ready to eat and do not require preparation,” he added. (PNA)
