The Department of Tourism-Central Luzon (DOT 3) is strengthening efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for tourists in the region.

In an interview Tuesday, DOT-3 Regional Director Richard Daenos said a series of seminar orientations on disaster risk reduction and crisis management for the tourism industry is being conducted from Nov. 13 to 16 to all DOT-accredited tourism enterprises in the region in a bid to ensure the safety and ease the impact of crises and disasters that affect them.

He said the event is being participated in by managers as well as security and safety officers in the tourism sector.

Daenos cited the need to develop and hone the skills of the industry stakeholders during any crisis, whether man-made or natural.

He said experts from the Office of Civil Defense Region 3 and Police Regional Office 3 will provide overviews and strategies on how to ease the effects of disasters and other emergencies and ensure faster recovery.

Daenos said the topics to be discussed will enable participants to help craft plans to ensure a safer, adaptive and resilient community towards sustainable tourism development.

He said the seminar orientation is designed to also enhance the industry stakeholders’ role as effective tourism front-liners capable of providing excellent service to visitors.

“The DOT collaborates closely with the local government units and stakeholders to strengthen tourism governance and ensure the safety and security of the tourists,” he added. (PNA)
