The Department of Health-Negros Island Region (DOH-NIR) has called for more blood donors through its weekly mobile donation campaign across the region.

“Every blood donation can help save patients in need – children, mothers, accident victims, and those undergoing life-saving treatments. Your simple act of kindness can make a big difference,” the DOH-NIR said in a statement.

Data on Tuesday showed that 8,613 blood units were collected from regionwide bloodletting activities in the first two months of 2026.

In 2025, the DOH-NIR blood services network collected 61,054 units, with a blood donation rate of 12.5 percent of the region’s total population of 4.87 million.

On March 16, blood donation drives were facilitated by the Bacolod City Health Office at the National University-Bacolod campus and the Murcia Municipal Health Office in Barangay Cansilayan.

Similar activities were also held in Barangay Banquerohan gymnasium in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental and municipal gymnasium of Valencia in Negros Oriental on Tuesday.

Other schedules are March 18 in Barangay Pandanon Silos gymnasium also in Murcia and in Siquijor town; March 19 – Barangay Inapoy and Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental; March 20 – Barangay Napo in San Juan, Siquijor; March 21 – Barangay Poblacion gymnasium in Bago City, Barangay San Fernando gymnasium in Talisay City, all in Negros Occidental, and Immaculate Parish in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; and March 22 – Emiliano Lizares National High School in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City.

In August last year, the DOH-NIR engaged key stakeholders in blood services to achieve a strong and sustainable blood program network for the country’s newest administrative region.

These include the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and the Negros First Provincial Blood Center, both based in Bacolod City and their respective blood services networks in this city and Negros Occidental; and the Sub-National Blood Center for Visayas and its partner-facilities.
