Director Carlo Francisco Manatad of “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” won the award for Best Director at the 2021 London East Asia Film festival on November 1.

Manatad, a prolific Filipino filmmaker and editor, bagged the award for directing his debut film “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” (Whether the Weather Is Fine) which story is about a mother and her son struggle for surviving during and after the hit of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013.

Starring Charo Santos-Concio as mother Norma, Daniel Padilla as Miguel, and MNL48 Francinne Rifol as Andrea.

The London East Asia Film Festival announced the winner on their official Twitter account last November 1.

“The BEST DIRECTOR award goes to CARLO FRANCISCO MANATAD for a remarkable, personal and extraordinary debut feature ‘WHETHER THE WEATHER IS FINE,” LEAFF wrote.

Moreover, London East Asia Film stated that “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” is the most impressive film among the entries. Therefore, they commend Manatad as an extraordinary director who accomplished his debut feature.

Earlier this year, the film wins a special award “Youth Jury Prize” at the 74th Locarno Film Festival (LFF) in Switzerland.

Based on the Twitter post of “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” the film will also compete in the upcoming Singapore International Film Festival this November 26.

Manatad is also known for his work on “Fatima Marie Torres and the Invasion of Space Shuttle Pinas 25” and “Ordinary People”.
