The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has tied up with the Antique Provincial Library to provide electronic (e)-governance service through its Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurs, and Economic Development (Tech4ED) program.

Librarian Grace Magullado said in an interview Monday that they are now preparing to set up a hub at the provincial library at the old capitol in San Jose de Buenavista that will officially open on Oct. 2.

“The DICT will provide three laptops and free internet access that could be used for electronic governance,” she said.

The provincial government will add four computer desktops.

The hub will cater to those who need to do research or access the websites of government agencies, including the Department of Foreign Affairs, National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine Statistics Authority.

DICT-trained library staff will assist in accessing the database of national government agencies.

Meanwhile, the provincial library has opened its learning hub for children.

“We have set up the Antique Provincial Learning Hub for Children near the main library to encourage children to spend their free time reading books,” she said.

The reading materials are the same books they use during the mobile library or outreach of the provincial library, particularly in remote areas. (PNA)
