The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday said 42 more Filipinos contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East, which brings the total abroad to 9,816.

It also reported 12 new recoveries and 13 fatalities, raising the overall tally to 5,802 and 721, respectively.

The total number of countries with confirmed cases among Filipinos remains at 72, according to the agency.

Of the 3,293 active cases, 2,323 are undergoing treatment in the Middle East/Africa, 308 in the Asia Pacific, 500 in Europe, and 162 in the Americas.

As of this posting, nearly 20 million cases of Covid-19 have already been recorded globally by the World Health Organization, half of which are registered in the Americas with 10,697,832 confirmed cases to date. (PNA)
