Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. De Carlo Uy said Friday that healthcare services in San Isidro town and nearby municipalities have received a major upgrade with the expansion of facilities, equipment and funding at the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) Extension in Sawata village, San Isidro town.

In an interview, Uy said they allocated PHP60 million for the expansion, but are still seeking additional funding. The initiative was made possible after longstanding concerns from residents about the limited capacity of the DRMC Infirmary, which often resulted in patient referrals to hospitals in Tagum City or Kapalong.

“We need to bring the government healthcare services closer to the people,” Uy said.

As of August 2025, the DRMC Extension offers significantly expanded services, including: 24/7 emergency, ward, and pharmacy services; outpatient and obstetric consultations; animal bite treatment and anti-rabies vaccination; improved radiologic and comprehensive laboratory services; and other specialized tests

Uy emphasized that while progress has been made, additional investments are needed.

“Despite the remarkable improvements, the DRMC Extension still requires more equipment and resources to fully meet the healthcare demands of our people,” he said.

He also assured that his office will continue to work on securing greater support and funding to ensure reliable, accessible and free healthcare for San Isidro and its neighboring communities.

“The expansion underscores the national and local governments’ shared commitment to making healthcare more inclusive, responsive, and sustainable for all,” Uy added. (PNA)
