Personnel of the city government of Dapitan planted 60 native seedlings during a coastal tree-planting activity on Thursday, strengthening its commitment to environmental conservation.

In a statement, the Dapitan City Information Division (DCID) said the native trees that were planted include the Balokbalok, Bituag, and Talisay, which were lined up along the shoreline of Purok Pasil in Barangay Polo.

“The initiative reinforces the city’s continuing efforts to restore and protect its coastal ecosystem through the planting of indigenous tree species,” the DCID said.

It noted that the shoreline-adapted species were carefully selected for their ability to help prevent coastal erosion, restore coastal habitats, and strengthen community resilience to climate change and storm surges.

The tree planting activity is part of the Dapitan City government’s ongoing environmental conservation program, which seeks to expand green spaces while encouraging greater community participation in safeguarding the city’s natural resources.

Through continued collaboration among local leaders, government personnel, and residents, the Dapitan City government remains steadfast in building a greener, more resilient future – one native tree and one barangay at a time.

“Every tree planted today serves as a vital step toward building a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient Dapitan,” the DCID said.

The tree planting activity was led by Dapitan City Councilor Dennis Tan, chair of the City Council’s Committee on Agriculture, along with the village officials and personnel of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office. (PNA)
