Cut and Paste, a two-part workshop-webinar will be headlined by the 2012 Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Thirteen Artist Awardee Kaloy Olavides, who will guide young artists on how to overcome their fear of painting through collage art.

Hosted by the Arts and Culture Cluster of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, the multimedia artist and musician will highlight how combining and forming an assemblage of different photos, clippings, and small accents can serve as an ideal study and reference for aspiring artists to achieve their concepts.

The Benilde School of Design and Arts educator will introduce Magic Eye Pictures or autostereogram, which creates the visual illusion of a three-dimensional (3D) scene from a two-dimensional image. He will showcase some of his personal drawings in the style as well as the most significant works of his students from 2012 to the present.

Olavides will introduce the leading influences in the genre, such as the thought-provoking surrealist art collages of American artist, illustrator and cover designer Winston Smith, popularly known for his artworks for the punk rock group Dead Kennedys.

A graduate of the University of the Philippine Diliman with a degree in Fine Arts and a major in Painting, whose rich body of art ranges from painting, installation and collage, Olvadies’ artist profile and works are featured in the prestigious CCP Encyclopedia of Philippine Art.

He has earned recognitions from the Manila Art Awards and the Philippine Art Awards for his collage work The Key.

In the field of performance, video and sound, he is the guitar/vocals of the alternative indie band Pastilan Dong!. He plays guitar for metal band Kapitan Kulam and is a member of bands Grows, Kagwang and Elemento.

Cut and Paste is free and open to the public. It will be conducted online via Zoom on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 and Wednesday, March 16, 2022, 2 p.m. Each session will conclude with a question-and-answer portion as well as a collage workshop.
