Plant enthusiasts, particularly those interested in growing their own backyard garden, could catch the third leg of the Community Pan-Tree at Megaworld Lifestyle Malls at McKinley Hill on September 12.

Aimed at promoting sustainability and self-sufficiency, the Community Pan-Tree was launched by Megaworld Lifestyle Malls in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-NCR. Inspired by the Community Pantries in the country, the program aims to give away free seedlings of fruit-bearing trees.

The event will be held at G/F Venice Grand Canal, and will be open to the public from 10AM to 7PM.

Ensuring adequate food supply has been a challenge due to the pandemic, but one way of helping the community thrive is by going into or promoting urban planting and backyard gardening. At the Community PanTree, shoppers may take the seedlings of trees such as atis, avocado, bignay, chico, guava, guyabano, and lipote, as well as vegetables like tomato and eggplant.

“Sustainability is one of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls’ key thrusts. As a company, we recognize the need for more green spaces and initiatives to support the community amid challenging times brought about by the pandemic. The Community Pan-Tree aims to encourage responsible earth stewardship among our customers and community members,” said Graham Coates, head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.

The third leg of the Community Pan-Tree follows its successful legs at McKinley Hill last July 19-20 and Eastwood City last July 21-22.
