The Department of Agriculture in Bicol (DA-5) earlier this week distributed PHP11.8 million composting facility technology packages for biodegradable waste to farmers in Camarines Sur.
Lovella Guarin, spokesperson for DA-5, said the initiative promotes organic farming and enhances farmers’ agricultural productivity.
“The goal of these interventions is to strengthen the capacity of cooperatives and research institutions in the production of organic fertilizer while reducing farm waste,” she said in a statement released Wednesday.
Larry Berin, vice chair of the Caanduyog Agriculture Cooperative, expressed gratitude for the government’s support.
“This will greatly help us as we practice organic farming. Additionally, the extra products generated from this facility can be sold by our cooperative,” he said.
A total of 15 farmer groups benefited from the program.
Beneficiaries underwent training and demonstrations before the distribution to ensure effective and productive operations. (PNA)
