The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has released the new extended voter registration hours in all Offices of Election Officer (OEOs) nationwide starting next week.
In an advisory on Thursday, the poll body said the adjusted voter registration hours will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays to Fridays starting Aug. 23.
Meanwhile, the new voter registration hours on Saturdays and holidays will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said the poll body decided not to extend the voter registration period since it would affect their preparations for the May 2022 National and Local Elections.
“Extending the Voter Registration deadline beyond September 30 would cause other problems and affect the timeline of preparations for the elections set for May 9,” she said in a Facebook post. “You can register to vote at any satellite registration sites in your area.”
She also advised the public to visit www.comelec.gov.ph for more information.
The nationwide voter registration has resumed on Sept. 1, 2020 and is set to end on Sept. 30, 2021.
Comelec reported that the number of new voter registrants in the country has reached 4.3 million. (PNA)
