The city government here will deploy more garbage bins and identify additional collection areas in the barangays to promote proper waste disposal among residents.

Mayor Raisa Treñas said Monday she had already talked to the General Services Office head, Engr. Niel Ravena, for a review of the garbage cans in the city, so they can plan this week and start the implementation.

Over the weekend, the citywide launch of the cleanup campaign collected 10 tons of garbage. At the kick-off venue in Barangay San Juan alone, around 6,000 kg. were collected.

The citywide cleanup every Saturday seeks to address the rising number of dengue cases during the rainy season.

“We will sustain this. We will make sure that this will be implemented. We will have offices that will monitor this cleanup drive,” Treñas said in a media interview.

The mayor said the garbage bins have to be located in specific areas to make them more accessible to the public.

“We will make sure it is accessible; we will add garbage collection areas,” she said.

She also urged the private sector to help educate the public on proper solid waste management, as well as donations of old drums or cans that can be repurposed as garbage bins. (PNA)
