Award-winning actress and host Charo Santos reflects on her journey as she celebrates 50 years in the industry in Metro’s latest digital cover.

“I’m always looking forward to the opportunity of making exciting stories, portraying challenging roles. I want to stay active. I want to stay engaged. I still want to continue to learn, to discover things,” Charo said in the exclusive Metro cover feature.

Aside from her well-loved character Tindeng in the hit teleserye “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” Charo steps into a new and enthralling role in the upcoming film “Only We Know,” where she portrays Betty, a woman pondering her life after retirement and her love for a younger man.

”She’s in her 60s, she’s very comfortable in her own skin, very confident, very sure about her decisions, and very sure about what she wants in life. So, wala na siyang masyadong scruples, wala nang bagahe. She can be friends with this person; wala na siyang hang-ups. Parang bukas na bukas siya sa buhay,” she described.

Despite her busy schedule as an actress, Charo proves she is a multi-faceted woman with the comeback of the longest-running drama anthology, “MMK.” The “MMK” host emphasized how human connection is a key factor in storytelling and making content for their viewers.

@metrodotstyle She wore many hats in her lifetime — model, actress, producer, host, executive, storyteller. And in her golden year in the entertainment industry, #CharoSantosConcio is still boldly wearing new ones. “You never really retire from life,” she says with a spark in her eye. “What is that word? Wala sa vocabulary ko!” she laughs. Because that’s how icons are made. You chase your passion relentlessly. You keep learning, unlearning, and relearning. You stay curious, no matter your age. You embrace every twist, turn, and character you meet along the way. She’s done it all, chasing her purpose while mentoring others. But what makes her legacy even more powerful is her refusal to stay still. At this stage, she’s not slowing down. And maybe that’s her secret: she never stopped showing up. For the work. For the people. For her purpose. For herself. She’s not done. Because purpose doesn’t retire and passion doesn’t fade. “You have to be authentic and truthful about it. And I think the most important thing is still connection. You want to connect with your audience. Even to an audience of one, you want to make that real connection. I think, amidst all the noise, it’s still the human connection at the end of the day,” she expressed.
