The Northern Samar provincial government will provide services to at least 3,343 poor families in the historic town of Capul in its service caravan on May 17.

The provincial government said the fifth caravan this year would cover all 12 villages of Capul, a 5th-class island town known for the Acapulco-Manila galleon trade during the Spanish era.

“Participating agencies and partners pledged to provide a wide range of services. These include free medical consultation, distribution of food packs and school supplies, veterinary care, circumcision, legal and career counseling, civil and government registrations, fire control demonstrations, and first aid training, among others,” the provincial government said on Tuesday.

The caravan aims to serve the residents of Barangays (villages) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, San Luis, Aguin, Landusan, Sawang, Sagaosawan, Jubang, and Oson.

This is the fifth service caravan by the provincial government this year. It was held earlier in the towns of Laoang (twice), Biri, and San Vicente, with 8,472 recipient families.

This will be the 25th Kauswagan (progress) caravan since its launch in 2019.

In 2023 alone, the Kauswagan caravan program, participated in by some 100 partner agencies, non-government organizations, and private organizations, reached 11,381 families from 47 villages in the province.

The service caravan is one of the flagship programs of the province, aimed at bringing government services closer to the people. (PNA)
